Environmental leaders gathered at our Sustainability Centre recently to share positive environmental stories and ideas.
With an emphasis on young people, guests spoke about what they do to help the environment through volunteer community action and how they inspire others to do the same. The forum was MC’d by Intrepid Landcare’s Naomi Edwards.
The event has opened up avenues for further investigation of networking and leadership opportunities for all ages.
Below is a snapshot from one of the speakers – Megan Rowlatt of Intrepid Landcare.
In 2009 Megan set up Illawarra Youth Landcare, now Illawarra Intrepid Landcare to address the issue of a lack of young recruitment in Landcare. In 2011 she was awarded NSW Young Landcare Leader of the year and in 2012 she was named the National Young Landcare Leader of the year. Today, Megan is a National Young Landcare Ambassador for Landcare Australia.
Other speakers included B4C’s Stefan Hattingh, Mikala Maloney and Morgan Ells of GenYadaba and Craig Wilson of Port of Brisbane.
Keeping it fun and relaxed, guests were treated to pizza, beer and soft drinks and live tunes by environmentally-minded Kate Leopold.
The event was proudly supported by SEQ Catchments, Healthy Waterways and Catchments, Brisbane City Council, Brisbane Catchments Network, Queensland Urban Utilities, Port Of Brisbane, Queensland Water and Land Carers, Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee.
