  • Boomerang Bags making session

  • Waterway recovery & bushcare event

    Now officially a Habitat Brisbane bushcare group! Emma from BCC will join this event. Tasks include weeding, rescuing plants from vines and weed, planning revegetation and appreciating a healthy small waterway which has native fish present.
    Wear protective work clothing (long sleeves, long trousers, sturdy footwear, hat and garden gloves (we'll also have spare gloves). Wear sunscreen and insect repellent.

    Morning tea provided (gold coin donation / free for B4C members). Take a look through our book swap stand (bring a book to swap with any book or purchase one for $2). No need to RSVP, just turn up!
  • Field trip of Karawatha fauna movement solutions

    Compton Rd Bridge overpassJoin a half day field trip and meet the hard-working members of Karawatha Protection Society at Karawatha Discovery Centre, take in the sights of the Karawatha Forest and a guided walk over the Compton Road overpass, (not usually available to general public). This trip will give you a behind the scenes look at the amazing work that has gone into protecting the wildlife in this area. Prof Darryl Jones, Deputy Director at Griffith University, will provide information gained from many years of observation and research at this unique facility. For more than a decade he has been at the forefront of world-leading strategies to protect wildlife from the negative impacts of our roads and minimise the risk to people from motor vehicle accidents involving wildlife.  Cost: $20 per person (includes transport and morning tea). This field trip will depart from Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre at 8.30am and there will be a second pick up and drop off at the Discovery Centre.
  • Whites Hill Reserve Bushwalk

Due to football carnival we're meeting at Jones Rd (this particular walk normally meets next to the playground opposite the football club & cafe). Wear closed in shoes, a hat, sunscreen and repellent. Bring water in reusable bottle. Morning tea provided.
    Meet near the toilets and playground, opposite the touch footy club house. This walk is still often referred to as 'Pat's Walk for Pleasure'. Pat hosted this walk for 20 years.   • Common Myna Humane Reduction Workshop

    myna birdCome and learn how can you help to control Common Myna impacts. This workshop will explain how to identify this bird, how to report your sightings and how you can start trapping in your own backyard. After attending this event, participants interested in trapping can borrow a cage and learn how to set it up. Common Mynas were listed among 100 of the world’s worst invasive species by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) in 2000. In Australia, they threaten native biodiversity due to their territorial behaviours and nest cavity competition. FREE but bookings required (via above link). Light refreshments provided. Sponsored by the BCC Lord Mayor's Environment Grant.

  • Flower-based switzel with Linda Brennan

    10am-12.30pm. Fermented drinks are all the go, as they provide wonderful support for the gut and digestion. Switzel, also known as Shrub, is an age old drink that’s super easy to make and can be created from a variety of fruit flavours you’ll have in your home orchard or herb garden, (and sometimes your flower garden too). Learn how to make a seasonal switzel that is delicious and surprisingly good for you too. Morning tea included. Enjoy the surrounds of our Sustainability Centre in Carindale. $5 per person, pre-booking required (via link above). This workshop is supported by the Brisbane City Council Cultivating Community Gardens Grant.
  • Worn Out? 2018

    Expressions of interest are invited for the upcoming exhibition, ‘Worn OUT?’ - deadline 20 August. A great way to celebrate the #WaronWaste. The exhibition focuses on upcycled wearable art and consist of two discrete showcases, Refashion and Cosplay. The exhibition will be launched with a free opening event featuring a runway show for each of the showcases and will continue to run with a static display of selected Refashion garments, Cosplay outfits and accessories.
  • Ecology in the Anthropocene - ESA18

    ESA18 runs from 25-29 November 2018. Optional workshops and field trips will be offered on Friday 30 November. Some field trips may be overnight. Australia’s ecologists are meeting Brisbane in November for the Ecological Society of Australia’s annual meeting. The theme is Ecology in the Anthropocene, reflecting the era of great tribulation and yet great opportunity in which we live.
    The early bird rate closes 14 September.
