Our Activities
An overview of our activities:
We support over 20 bushcare groups and are affiliated to 30 other groups. We are a volunteer centre which caters for a wide variety of community and referred volunteers including community service, corporate and disability groups. We operate a Sustainability Centre – with corporate partner Powerlink we are developing a 2 hectare sustainable centre including a sustainable home (office), community nursery, waterwise gardens and permaculture, displaying sustainable technologies. The Centre
will open in 2009.
We operate an Environmental Services Unit – a professional work team performs sensitive ecological rehabilitation work on waterways, wetlands and bushlands on a contractual basis. We have created the Bulimba Creek Environment Fund – A foundation for the environment where donations and bequests help restore nature and create awareness of environment and the need for sustainability. The foundation delivers small grants for community action. We undertake strategic planning – We develop our B4C plans and assist with otherplanning processes to provide green offsets to infrastructure development and to retain
and enhance environmental corridors and wildlife habitats, and public amenity.
We have developed a learning network – a schools program which introduces nature based projects and native tree planing in schools. We are also developing an NGO delivered package that can be adapted to any school and catchment group. We undertake twinning projects – we share and exchange environmental and social resources and knowledge with Southern Thailand, The Gregory River Catchment (North Qld), and the Loire River including the European Rivers Network in France. We underake rehabilitation programs – We work with a network of partners to restorenative vegetation in a strategic way.
We are advocates – We lobby and negotiate with governments and industries to protect native vegetation and natural areas from threatening processes and inappropriate land use and development, and have protected over 400 ha to date!
