Outback Adventure Application 2026

Each year, B4C sponsors two young people who are keen to build their skills in Landcare and bush regeneration by supporting Gulf Rivers Landcare at a range of remote sites. This is a fabulous opportunity to gain hands-on regeneration experience in an environment vastly different from urban Brisbane. The proposed dates for this year’s Outback Adventure are: 26th April to 4th May (TBC).

Since 2005, when the group was known as Gregory Rivers Landcare, B4C has maintained a strong partnership, fostering mutual understanding and appreciation of our respective catchments.

This year, the opportunity will be offered to a member of B4C’s field crew. With limited places available, we encourage interested staff to apply for selection. If you are not successful this year, you will be welcome to reapply in future years.

***Please note: this is a volunteer opportunity, while food, flights and accommodation are covered, you will not receive payment for duration of the trip***

If you are interested, please review the itinerary and respond to the questions provided. Please note that the successful applicant will be required to camp, navigate remote and rugged terrain, travel by boat, and assist with shared tasks such as clean-up, washing and meal preparation. Cross-cultural experience and the ability to work across generations will be highly regarded.

If you are interested in applying, please submit your application by Monday 16th February 2026.

Itinerary

Day 1 – The B4C team arrives in Mount Isa at 08:45. They drop off some gear at Mark’s place before leaving for the first activity at about 10:00. Depending on the water level of the lake, they may bring the buggy and park it at Rosebud Station. They set up camp at Sanctuary on the Corella River. After lunch, they possibly walk to Jubilee Creek to treat Parkinsonia and bellyache bush. (1st night Camping)

Day 2 – The team drives to the southern side of the lake, bringing the buggy. They spend the morning treating Parkinsonia and BAB. After lunch, the group walks back to the Sanctuary camp, treating the same weeds on the southern side of the Corella River. (2nd night Camping)

Day 3 – The team packs up camp and walks from Sanctuary up the river to Greens Creek, treating BAB. They set up camp near Mary Kathleen tailings dam and start following up on the mesquite. (3rd night Camping)

Day 4 – They pack up camp and complete another mesquite sweep on the Cameron River, using the buggy. The B4C volunteers stay the night at Mark’s house. They clean up, wash clothes, relax, and go out for dinner.

Day 5 – The team heads to West Leichhardt Station and sets up camp at the Junction on the Leichhardt River, bringing the buggy. They consider where to start and could follow up on “last year’s new patch”; they plan a walk down to 8 Mile. (4th night Camping)

Day 6 – They complete a morning session and may park the buggy at the station. The B4C volunteers stay another night at Mark’s house, clean up, wash clothes, relax, and go out for dinner.

Day 7 – The team prepares for their flight back to Brisbane at 09:35.
