Whites Hill Pine Mountain Community Group
2026 has arrived and the Whites Hill Junior Naturalist & Bushcare Program, an initiative of the Whites Hill Pine Mountain Community Group, is taking shape. The first course will enable children aged 8 to 11 years to learn about a variety of local nature at Whites Hill and how to care for it.
Between January and September, six (6) events will be held at Whites Hill Reserve to show participants how to identify the birds, animals, plants and habitats found in the Reserve, as well as the bushcare skills needed to care for them.
The first session will be held on the morning of Friday 23 January at Whites Hill Reserve, beginning at 8:00am and running until approximately 9:30am. It is an early start, but this helps avoid the heat and still allows parents and children to enjoy the rest of their day.
WE STILL HAVE A FEW SPACES AVAILABLE
If this sounds like something you and your child(ren) would be interested in, please complete the form below and send it via email to gary.is.king56@gmail.com.
First Session Outline
The first session will provide an opportunity for participants to meet the facilitators, hear some background information about Whites Hill Reserve, and take part in a short lesson on how to use binoculars.
Participants will then head off on a Discovery Walk through the Reserve, answering a few questions and noting the many things they hear, smell and see.
Following the walk, the group will return to base camp for snacks and drinks (provided). Each child will receive a Personal Journal, and there will be time to talk about observations from the walk and answer questions.
A printed copy of the dates for the remaining sessions will also be provided.
Each registered participant will have already received an email with additional information about this event.
Our Plan
Each future session will be approximately two hours long. While there will be a short teaching component, most of the time will be spent on active, hands-on learning, delivered by Whites Hill volunteers. All learning materials and tools will be provided, along with a mid-session snack and drink.
As families are often busy, participants are not required to attend every session, but are encouraged to come along to as many as they are able.
