Volunteer spotlight: Leigh Weakley

Leigh WeakleyLeigh Weakley is B4C’s Nursery Manager. He is always very generous with his amazing knowledge of plants and looking after the nursery team and systems. We asked Leigh a few questions so you could get to know him better.

What is your occupation / area of study?
Currently working on my own business in the IT industry.

When did you join B4C?
January 2014.

Why did you join B4C?
Interest in Australian Native plants and my wife was looking for volunteering opportunities which is when I stumbled across B4C.

What environmental issues are of interest/importance to you?
Most concern to me is maintaining healthy waterways and minimising rubbish contribution

What suburb do you live in?
Carina Heights.

Where were you born?
South Brisbane.

What are your interests, hobbies etc?
High interest in Australian plants, and my hobby was being a time keeper in the Australian world rally championships.

What sort of tasks do you do as a B4C Volunteer?
Used to be a nursery assistant but now my main role at B4C is the Nursery manager.

What do you enjoy about volunteering with B4C?
Spreading the word about what B4C stands for and seeing where the plants end up from the nursery and what they are used for when it comes to B4C’s rehabilitation.

What is your favourite place you have travelled to?
Japan because it is close and an easy country to enjoy.
