Removal of koala trees at Pacific Golf Club, Carindale

The local community is concerned that many trees, including established koala food trees, are to be removed from Pacific Golf Club at Carindale.

Contrary to what many believe, the Reside Communities development will have a footprint beyond just the existing carpark and building structure. See more here and here.

Brisbane City Council, in the Development Application process, managed to save 18 of the proposed 83 trees to be removed. We thank Council for this.

It appears now that there are 65 trees to be removed, including 16 non-juvenile koala habitat trees. This is on a Sport and Recreation area zoned land with a Council “Koala Habitat” mapping layer covering all the course. See full list of trees here. (scroll to end of document for list).

We are supporters of the club and golf course and our Catchment Manager Wayne Cameron has personally volunteered on the course and provided plans to rehabilitate a section of Bulimba Creek there that is currently collapsing. B4C wants to see the creek and surrounding wildlife protected.

The images below show trees outside of the car park area which are scheduled for removal.

What can you do?

Let’s save as much of this important habitat and environmental heritage as we can. Can the developers find a way to keep the trees in their plan?

  1. Concil Must require this club to put nature before profit.
Surely there is a happy conclusion that can be achieved.

  2. The club has done extensive work to protect as much of the koala friendly trees as possible. Really think we all need to let common sense prevail and stop hindering the pacific club from getting on with this development. The reality is, without this development , the club will battle to survive, what then??

  3. There’s koalas in established trees and it is beyond me the arrogance you greedy people have to destroy the last bit of natural habitat available to these beautiful creatures native to this country! Stop being so self serving! Have some decency and leave the trees there, your selfishness is revolting!
