We are delighted to celebrate Heather Wood as the recipient of the B4C Outstanding Dedication Award for 2024, recognising her extensive involvement in environmental conservation and her commitment to community service.
Heather is a committed volunteer and an active member of Ocean Crusaders, frequently participating in waterway clean-ups. In her own words, “I get a free mud facial, new hairdo, and an all-over body workout, all while saving the environment and helping provide safer habitats for marine and land wildlife.”
Heather volunteers for two bushcare groups, the Mt Gravatt Environment Group and Mackenzie Bushcare Group, restoring native vegetation and creating quality habitats.
Every fortnight, she joins B4C and Conservation Volunteers Australia at Oxbow Wetlands to help remove serious invasive weeds such as Madeira Vines and Coral Berry. She says, “Who needs to go to a gym, join the ‘green gym’.”
Having two teenagers of her own, Heather is passionate about encouraging young people as the next generation that will nourish our environment and community. She volunteers at all the endurance events run by the Kokoda Youth Foundation throughout the year.
Her contribution to Scouts includes leading a Girl Guide unit and volunteering her time at weekly meetings, and by attending camps and other outdoor adventures.
In addition to the above, Heather helps out at B4C events, Scouts, and the Mansfield High School Music Parent Support Group.
Thank you, Heather, for everything you do.
