Celebrating Dr. Julie Allan: B4C’s 2024 Nursery Volunteer of the Year

We are proud to honor Dr. Julie Allan as B4C’s 2024 Nursery Volunteer of the Year. Julie, a retired chemical engineer with over 30 years of experience, primarily in the South East Queensland water sector, has dedicated approximately 18 months to volunteering at our nursery. Her efforts span various projects, including plant propagation, re-establishing native bee colonies, and maintaining the water wall, rain garden, and formal garden at our sustainability centre’s entrance.

Julie’s passion for gardening is evident in her personal projects as well; she has transformed her front lawn into a vibrant meadow of native grasses and wildflowers.

Julie has a particular interest in planning for water security in urban communities, especially in preparation for drought. In 2022, Julie attained her PhD from the University of Queensland. Her research focussed on defining urban water security and understanding the role of stakeholders in establishing objectives.

In addition to her contributions to B4C, Julie volunteers at a city mission, providing meals to the homeless and those in need. Her broad range of interests and commitments reflects her deep dedication to both environmental sustainability and community service.
